Gilbert’s Greatsword – Annwn

Braw and bold, he went a-raiding;
stout and strong, he went to war.
Long his lady will be waiting;
Gilbert’s greatsword strikes no more.

Apparently, there was an SCA contest for best elegy, so Leigh Ann Hussey wrote a song for the “death” of a player in “Steal the Sheep” earlier that day, a game where teams compete to move a stuffed sheepskin across a field.
“Gilbert’s Greatsword,” or “Elegy for Gilbert de Langspee,” by Annwn.  The percussion on this is tabla, played by Aditya Gurajada.

Gotham on the Fritz – waiting4codot

waiting4codot:

Have you seen the ne’er-to-do, locked up in ‘Ark Avenue’,
On that famous thoroughfare, with some toxin in the air,
High hats and Arrow collars, green spats and lots of dollars,
Spending every dime, on a wonderful crime!

If you’re blue and you don’t know where to go to,
Why don’t you go where chaos sits,
Gotham on the fritz!

Femme fatales who wear a day coat, two-faced men,
Or leather bound coats, perfect fits,
Gotham on the fritz!

Dressed up like a winged flying sleuther,
Trying hard to look like Ol’ Lex Luthor (super duper),
Come let’s mix where Cobblepots walk with their sticks,
Or umbrellas in their mitts.
Gotham on the fritz!

Kitty cats all wear a diamond choker,
Harley walking with the man who broke her (what a joker),
You’ll declare it’s simply insane to be there,
And cower as they battle wits,
Gotham on the fritz!

(I was bored. This happened. Deal with it.)

Never Set the Cat on Fire – Frank Hayes

Never set the cat on fire, you only will annoy it
The flames will make the beast perspire; it surely won’t enjoy it

“Never Set the Cat on Fire” by Frank Hayes, a classic filk that goes in a much different direction than you’d expect it to.
Lyrics with chords available here.

Penguin Lust – Annwn

“This is the absolute truth. We used to play every Thursday at a bar in San Francisco. One of the hecklers there, our friend Chuck, used to ask (every week!) if we knew anything Irish. Then he got bored with that and began asking if we knew anything from Antarctica. One day Elton snapped and allowed as to how yes, we did know one. After which, of course, he had to back up that boast.“

“Penguin Lust,” by Annwn.  It’s…just about what it says it is.  Download and lyrics available here.

A Reconsideration Of Anatomical Docking Maneuvers In A Zero-Gravity Environment – Kristoph Klover & Ernie Mansfield

Now I may be wrong, but it seems to me,
When contemplating the dynamics of sex,
That trying to do it in zero-g
May present some pressing problems we did not expect.

“A Reconsideration Of Anatomical Docking Maneuvers In A Zero-Gravity Environment” (AKA The Zero-G Sex Song), written by Diana Gallagher Wu, performed by Kristoph Klover and Ernie Mansfield.

Or, more science words than you ever knew you needed in a song about sex.

Eight-Legged Blues – Vixy & Tony

They raid your liquor cabinet, though they’re not of age to drink
They’re staging tango competitions in the kitchen sink
They’re critiquing your new painting (your perspective’s off, they say)
And they’re analyzing your décor for optimal feng shui

“Eight-Legged Blues,” by special-edition four-member Vixy & Tony (Michelle Dockrey, Tony Fabris, Betsy Tinney, and Sunnie Larsen)

The part of the spiders is credited to Betsy’s cello, Raven.

Blood and Black Leather – Leslie Fish

Consider the shape of the future
The lessons we’ve learned from the past
You must have chainmaille and black leather
If you want clothing to last

“Blood and Black Leather,” some solid post-apocalyptic worldbuilding by Leslie Fish, performed at Worldcon 1998

I’m headed to Wasteland Weekend today!  If anybody who happens to see this is there (a long shot, but you never know), please talk to me.  I’ll have my guitar.  Look for a patchwork tent with CAPITALISM KILLED spray painted on the side.
