The Gods Aren't Crazy – Leslie Fish

Drink, drink, to Charlie Fort’s memory –
Marvelous doings, and marvelous sights.
Drink, drink, we may as well join them.
The gods are not crazy; they’re higher than kites!

Charles Fort was a turn-of-the-(last)-century American writer with an interest in unexplained phenomena.  In honor of him, Leslie Fish wrote a song about some gods getting plastered.
It’s worth also crediting Kristoph Klover, who was in charge of recording sheep and roosters and making a pennywhistle sound drunk.

Fake Geek Guy – Kari Maaren

“Fake Geek Guy,” by Kari Maaren
This song was tangentially inspired by The Doubleclicks’ “Nothing to Prove,” but “to be absolutely frank, the Doubleclicks’ song is a moving autobiographical anthem, while mine is just kind of mean.”
It’s mean in a good way, though, and, as Kari says, more songs ought to name-drop Gail Simone.
The lyrics and chords can be found in the FilKONtario 24 songbook

I was inspired to write this song after watching Allie Goertz’s very charming, very sweet (slightly psychotically violent in the middle) song “Tonight (D&D Song).”
Its a great, wistful tune, and she has a beautiful voice.
I’m sorry that this isn’t, and that I don’t. While I love rpgs, and have since I was a kid, this is more like the D&D sessions we had when I was younger. That doesn’t mean I didn’t (r don’t) feel the same way Allie does about a good rpg session. It probably (I hope) speaks to the quality of the games we ran when I was younger…
Every group has its George. If your group doesn’t, you’re probably him (or her.)
Enjoy!

One of the songs performed at last night’s Nerd-Vana’s Merry Freakin’ FILK-smas show!

5 Years – Tom Smith

merripestin:

5 Years (Babylon 5) by Tom Smith
Hot like Ivanova and Talia,
we’re gonna Draal ya,
and then we’ll kick a little Zathras.
Yesterday all the Narns were freed
but there’s still something keeping hold on Centauri.
We’ll get a room on Z’ha’dum,
the ship’ll zoom and then go BOOM (shakalaka)
‘cos there’s always one tomorrow.
