The Dragon-Slayer – Vanessa Cardui

I think it’s time to slay the dragon
I think it’s time to take a stand
He’s been eating all our babies, pretty girls and little old ladies,
And it’s time someone faced him like a man

This song is hilarious?  I think?  I know it doesn’t look like it should be, from this excerpt and the title, but trust me.  This arrangement is also very pretty, which makes everything somewhat surreal.  Warning for some bad language, so…don’t listen when your parents are around, kids.

Fire In the Sky – Kristoph Klover

Prometheus they say brought god’s fire down to man
And we’ve caught it, tamed it, trained it since our history began
Now we’re going back to Heaven just to look Him in the eye
And there’s a thunder ‘cross the land and a fire in the sky.

“Fire in the Sky,” by Jordin Kare, performed by Kristoph Klover – for when you want to be REALLY PUMPED ABOUT SPACE but also kind of sad and afraid.

Take Up Your Shield Steve Rogers -idiopathicsmile

idiopathicsmile:

So I figured it would be kind of fun to go through all the songs that have been written about Steve Rogers and do a series of covers, like a study in shifting perspectives of an American icon through the years?

Kicking things off with an old-school folk song. Download here, lyrics mostly under the cut, historical notes at the end.

Lyrics:

Little Steve Rogers never had the knack
of running from a fight ‘fore it was done
stood up to any bully even when they’d knock him flat
he’d rush in to defend ‘most anyone

So take up your shield, Steve Rogers
Take up your shield tonight
Take up your shield, Steve Rogers
There’s wrongs out there that need some settin’ right

Patina – WoodLore

Take to the land like the rushing water
Fight for your life like a lion
Retell the tale of the lowly daughter
Lost in the place where she bides
Treasure the scars that the woodlands gave you
Make them a sign of your might
The cold in the wind and the rain may scald you
But freedom it comes at a price

Ostensibly, this is about My Little Pony.  Really, it seems like it could be about almost anything.  And it’s very pretty.

Never Again – Andrew Heinrich

Well I’ve sailed north to Ireland
I’ve sailed south to France
I’ll sail to the New World
If you give half a chance
But brave as I might be
And bold as I am
I’ll never go drinking
With Michael again!

“Never Again,” by Andrew Heinrich, about someone who has apparently become a bit of a legend in the SCA.  The lyrics are here, and you’ll probably need them, since I couldn’t find a clean (free) recording, but they’re also incomplete.  They don’t include the “Stairway to Heaven” verse, for instance.
