My computer died several weeks ago and I lost all my musical and artistic files. I got a new computer and am re-importing all of my cds, but it’s a slow process due to having to FIND those cds.
This is one song I have been unable to find anywhere, so here you go.

Valdemar’s Song (The Baron and the Minstrel of the Hall) – by Efenwealt Wystle
“So much of life in the SCA is centered around interactions between teachers and students. We all have so much to learn from each other, and none of us has all the answers. Though we all walk different paths on our quests, they all point to the same place. That place is made up of the very best qualities and talents within each of us. Learning to find that and forgive each other’s imperfections is what brings us all closer to our Dream.”
“Valdemar’s Song (The Baron and the Minstrel of the Hall),” by Efenwealt Wystle. Valdemar, in this case, is an SCA persona, not the Lackey novels.
This song…it’s beautiful, and inspiring, and oddly sad.
Belling the Cat – Talis Kimberley
Everymouse knows, everymouse knows
Let the bravest mice bell him so everymouse knows.
“Belling the Cat,” by Talis Kimberley
There are a surprising number of songs by filkers about cats and/or mice. This one’s a metaphor.
Christmas in India – Mark Horning
And at Home they’re making merry ‘neath the white and scarlet berry –
What part have India’s exiles in their mirth?
A belated Christmas present – Mark Horning performing his version of Kipling’s “Christmas in India” at the last Phoenix housefilk
Leave It – Talis Kimberley
“It’s a protest song, a gut-punch of a thing that wanted out. I suspect it’s already growing new verses out there where people are singing it…“
“Leave It,” by Talis Kimberley
Wanderer (Hymn to Fen’Harel) – Will Sturman
So a while ago I thought “I should write a song about Dragon Age, totally from scratch.” And a little voice at the back of my mind said “write about Solas” and made this face ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I’m calling this a hymn, but in truth I could just as easily call it “Solas, your head is so far up your ass Varric’s calling it a Deep Roads expedition, please stop.”
Impostor – The Doubleclicks
Feels like I’ve held my breath for hours
And I turn on my eyes to find I’m very far away
I take account of all my wheels, my arm, and my tiny drill
After all my training, I will do nothing familiar today
“Impostor,” by The Doubleclicks
I usually put the chorus or something like that in that fancy indented bit, but…that seems spoilery with this.
All the Birds are Gone – Talis Kimberley
All the birds are gone, and all the stones are shaking;
On and on and on, every day in turn
What will burn, will burn, and they dare to call this ‘needful’
But the birds do not return
“All the Birds are Gone,” by Talis Kimberley
One of the things that most complicates the constant question of “what is filk, anyway?” is that filkers tend to write about things that aren’t typical filk subjects as if they were. And so you get songs like this one, which sounds like it could be about Mad Max but is really about fracking.
Moon Rabbits – Cassie G.
I wrote a song! It’s about moon rabbits, wars, and cake. There’s a story behind this one: My parents and their siblings were making my grandmother a birthday cake. She told them, “Oh, you can decorate it however,” so they did: The cake was decorated with rabbits, fighting a war, on the moon. With laser guns. The rabbits had laser guns. My grandmother wasn’t amused.
Lyrics:
Moon rabbits, Moon rabbits, they’re coming to invade the Earth.
Moon rabbits, Moon rabbits, we’ll defend ourselves with all our worth.
They used to fight an eternal war, over which cake was best.
Now at peace, they attack our world, laser guns to the test!
Moon rabbits, Moon rabbits, they don’t know how to cook or bake
Moon rabbits, Moon rabbits, that’s why they’re coming, for cake!
Lasers and Feelings – The Doubleclicks
You’ve got lasers
And I’ve got feelings
Your lonely heart could use some healing
You’ve got lasers
And I’ve got feelings for you
“Lasers and Feelings,” by The Doubleclicks
My Indie Trash Friend ™ with no interest in filk generally had heard this song and I hadn’t, and I just thought that was odd.
