so @paticmak made this lovely drawing/animation of “poe singing space folk songs to the other resistance pilots” and then @soemily activated the SPACE-SIGNALING BEACON OF WRITE A SPACE FOLK SONG

this one turned out like 50% space folk song, 50% blindsided by poe dameron feelings. (surely you, the internet, understand.)

THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR

(reminder that this song is good and the chords are here)

Got to Fly – Marian Call

I don’t know how you got the stomach for reality when
You could go circle the stars, you wouldn’t be-lieve where I’ve been
Just this week, I’ve made some freakishly fabulous finds
My corpse has been here, but my mind’s covered miles
I’m cravin’ altitude, so kindly step aside — I got to fly.

“Got to Fly,” by Marian Call

Pushing the Speed of Light – Julia Ecklar & Anne Prather

And you’ve left behind you the world of men
With no way in space to go home again
When you’re pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a while, I’ve been really busy.  This is one of my all-time favorite space songs; I’m not sure why I haven’t posted it before.
“Pushing the Speed of Light,” by Julia Ecklar and Anne Prather

Good Old Girl – Marian Call

Doin’ what they do, shepherding her through
Space will slow her stride, time will turn her tide
It’s far too much to take, but my girl don’t know when to break
So she’ll make she’ll make a way; she’s a good old girl, she’ll fly true

“Good Old Girl,” by Marian Call
Gotta love a song about spaceships.  I think this was specifically inspired by Firefly, but it’s pretty general in a way I really like.

Frankenstein – The Mechanisms

Recommended to me by @khittyhawk, this group seems to do mini-musicals.  I’m not sure how to classify them, but they’re really neat.
There’s a review on their website that says “Ostensibly folk, but folk run over with a steam-powered bus driven by Homer” and…if that’s not an endorsement, I don’t know what is.

Come Ye Knights – Technical Difficulties

Come you knights and come you pilots
With your ships and sabers shining
Come and stop your children’s crying
Come and join the rebel queen

“Come Ye Knights,” by Sheila Willis, performed by Technical Difficulties

@sci-fantasy saw my plight and sent me a better-quality recording of this song, and I’m very grateful.  Anyway, I’ve posted three version of this song now.  It’s a good song, and it’s topically relevant.
Chords and lyrics are here

The Saga Begins – Weird Al Yankovic

beggars-opera:

I would just like to remind everyone that regardless of your opinion of the Star Wars prequels, they did produce one of the greatest parody songs of all time, which by the way was written entirely before the movie came out using spoilers from pre-Google 1990s fansites.

I’m sure everyone’s heard this song, but I had no idea it was written before the movie came out, and that is amazing.

Light Sailor – Mary Wessels & Ed Stauff
