Legacy – Michael Kelly

We dig too deep
Trying to rival the deeds of our fathers
We dig too deep
The children of giants, trying to stand on their shoulders

“Legacy,” by Michael Kelly.  He mostly does SCA events and the like, but I (dog mod) met him at a post-apocalyptic event, and he’s not only an amazing singer, but incredibly supportive and encouraging.  He got me to sing into a microphone alone for the first time (in the desert, for people wearing only leather and spikes), which took some coaxing, so I feel obligated to plug his Patreon, where he releases new recordings regularly for donors.

This one’s for the dwarves of Middle Earth, hence the beard.  But don’t let the beard fool you!  It’s a beautiful song.  Lyrics and chords under the cut.

We strike the earth
Born of the stone, with only our name
For home and hearth
Here we shall carve.. out the bones of our birthright

(CHORUS:)

We dig too deep
Trying to rival.. the deeds of our fathers
We dig too deep
The children of giants.. trying to stand on their shoulders

With empty hands
Here we shall reap.. all the wealth of the world
Where now we stand
Great cities will rise.. where once there was nothing

(Chorus)

Our glory won
Yet farther we reach.. always grasping for more
Our works undone
All crumble to ruin.. in the quest for our greatness

(Chorus)

The blood of kings
Once flowed through our veins.. now runs red in our halls
From ash and flame
Came the doom of our home.. with the blood of the mountain

(Chorus)

We dig too deep
Our homeland has fallen.. our legacy smoulders

Verse and Chorus: / Am F / G Am / Am F / G Am/
Last 2 lines: / Am F / G Am /
