Femme Fatale – Leslie Hudson

This manipulation buries my twisted truth
This modification carries my future youth
So I shall be what I’ve become
Femme fatale

“Femme Fatale,” from Leslie Hudson’s concept album about fictional redheads.  I picked one of the better-known characters to post; this one is about Black Widow.

Take Up Your Shield Steve Rogers -idiopathicsmile

idiopathicsmile:

So I figured it would be kind of fun to go through all the songs that have been written about Steve Rogers and do a series of covers, like a study in shifting perspectives of an American icon through the years?

Kicking things off with an old-school folk song. Download here, lyrics mostly under the cut, historical notes at the end.

Lyrics:

Little Steve Rogers never had the knack
of running from a fight ‘fore it was done
stood up to any bully even when they’d knock him flat
he’d rush in to defend ‘most anyone

So take up your shield, Steve Rogers
Take up your shield tonight
Take up your shield, Steve Rogers
There’s wrongs out there that need some settin’ right

Howling Commandos! Theme Song – idiopathicsmile

idiopathicsmile:

Okay so who do I have to bribe for fanart of the super cheesy 90’s era Howling Commandos children’s cartoon that TOTALLY 100% would’ve existed within the Marvel movie-verse?

And would it help if I wrote a theme song?

Howling Commandos! Howling Commandos!
Evil fears just one name: Howling Commandos!
Good is gonna win the game: Howling Commandos!

(Roll call!)

First Captain America, the leader of the pack! (Cap: This way!)
Second, Sergeant Bucky Barnes who always has his back! (Bucky: Aye aye!)
Montgomery and Dum Dum, they’re a team that can’t be beat! (Dum Dum: Tally ho!)
Add Jacques and Gabe and Morita and now the crew’s complete! (Gabe: Righteous!)

They’re gonna go that extra mile,
now Red Skull’s in a bind
So grab your shield, don’t touch that dial—
it’s gonna be a…howling…good time!

#In the cartoon they also have a talking pet wolf named Betsy Ross #It’s an ‘educational’ show so every other week one of the commandos learns the importance of teamwork #captain america #howling commandos #it was canceled after ten episodes but the wolf got her own spinoff series (via @idiopathicsmile)

Squirrel Girl – Adam WarRock

Who doesn’t want a song about Squirrel Girl, right? Big ups to friend-of-the-site Erica Henderson on the Marvel gig. If you don’t remember, she did the last Rap-A-Thon poster for me (image), and she’s just a generally cool lady. Also big ups to Ryan North, who I don’t know personally, but whose work I love. If you haven’t checked out Marvel Comics’ Squirrel Girl, you should. It’s great. I wish Marvel would do more of this kind of stuff, it reminds me of the Marvel Adventures comics that used to be around. There was some great stuff in that series.

I’m generally done touring for a while. But I got some interesting shows on the horizon:

This Saturday: Collector’s Corner – Baltimore, MD (info)
March 27: Rutgers Geek Week – New Brunswick, NJ (info)
April 4: UCLA Geek Week – Los Angeles, CA (info TBA)
April 10: Univ. of North Texas GeeKon Event – Denton, TX (info TBA)
April 23: The Symposium – Cleveland, OH (info)
April 24: ICE Comic Expo – Chicago, IL
May 2: Super-Fly Comics FCBD! – Yellow Springs, OH

Come out and say hi!

LEGIT HAWKEYE RAP OMFG

clint would put this on his ipod fo sho

I like it, but he missed a great opportunity by not making the second-to-last line “Ain’t you that Iron Fist dude?”

The Boy in the Ice – axonsandsynapses

axonsandsynapses:

I have long maintained that Paul Simon’s The Boy in the Bubble is a great song for Steve Rogers (MCU version) in the months following waking up in the 21st century. It’s not much of a leap at all to rewrite it to be explicitly about Cap. So, yeah, this adaptation kind of just happened…

The Boy in the Ice
(to be sung to Paul Simon’s “Boy in the Bubble”)

It was a slow day
And the sun was beating
On a city both familiar and new
There was a bright light
A shattering of car windows
The rumble of the spaceships
The screams and shock as shrapnel flew

These are the days of miracle and wonder
The other side of the fall
The way the cameras follow you in slow-mo
The way they look at us all
The way we look to the distant constellations
That’re shining through a hole torn in the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry, Soldier, don’t cry
Don’t cry

It was a cold wind
And it swept across the river
As the carriers rose from the earth
And a dead friend
Fallen from a high train
Now a killer not remembering
Who he was and what he’s worth

These are the days of miracle and wonder
The other side of the fall
The way the cameras follow you in slow-mo
The way they look at us all
The way we look to the distant constellations
That’re shining through a hole torn in the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry, Hero, don’t cry
Don’t cry

It’s an unexpected gut punch
It’s possibly a new start
It’s every generation that throws their heroes to the sharks
Medicine is magic and magic dang’rous art
Thinking of a mighty metal arm
And the man with a reactor in his heart

And I believe
These are the days of laser-sighted rifles
And sights on the people everywhere
Staccato signals of constant information
A loose affiliation of corporations
And furtive nations, and Soldier-

These are the days of miracle and wonder
The other side of the fall
The way the cameras follow you in slow-mo
The way they look at us all, oh yeah
The way we look to the distant constellations
That’re shining through a hole torn in the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry, Captain, don’t cry
Don’t cry, don’t cry

The Ballad of Captain America’s Disapproving Face – Murder Ballads

copperbadge:

So, once upon a time I said, “If you can’t tell Captain America what you’re doing, you probably shouldn’t be doing it” and it inspired a poem by Catt Kingsgrave (aka theactualcluegirl) which eventually led to this pre-release rough-draft single, The Ballad Of Captain America’s Disapproving Face (also available for listening here on SoundCloud).

I guarantee you will never laugh this hard at any other song that opens with a riff on the Star Spangled Banner. Also there is, if I’m not mistaken, a kazoo cover of Star Spangled Man involved.

Anyhow, Murder Ballads is working on an album, and if you like the song, consider throwing a few bucks their way to help get their album made.

(The accompanying image up there is by the astonishing Frogbillgo, but is not associated officially with the album.)

Kang the Conqueror – Ookla the Mok

Lyrics and more music available on Ookla the Mok’s website, but first I’m just gonna leave this here…
